Cute Cards with Spellbinders

Good Morning Crafters

As promised today I am sharing the cards I made at the workshop on Saturday with Christine Emberson of Spellbinders UK.

I'm going to start with my favourite which is the card we happened to make first.  The die is called Bear Scout, we also used A2 Matting Basics.  I think this bear is just adorable, his nose and eyes are embossed so it's easy to add the detail with black Zig Millennium and white Gelly Roll pens.  You could of course stamp any sentiment on his flag.  This set also comes with a one leaf die too.

Next was Some Bunny.  What I particularly like about this die is as the body, head and paws are separate you can change the position, also the die comes with a bow which can be used a bow tie or, as in my sample, you can use it to make a girl bunny by adding to the ear.  I think the sentiment was printed on the computer and then die cut.

The last card uses the Ella-fant die together with the Pierced Circles and Tropics dies, also from Spellbinders.  I really love the sentiment for this too.

Editor's Pick
As you have seen me use it so often in my inspiration posts this week's pick is my favourite stamp by Paperartsy.  It lends it's self so well to not only cardmaking but also mixed media.  It's unique, fun and a wee bit quirky too.

Until tomorrow Keep on Crafting!

Muddy Puppy

Hello Crafters

A reminder that there are still a few places left on the Spellbinders Workshop tomorrow to book your place please phone the shop on 01284 701101.

For today's card I have used a Brusho background which was a mop-up piece from a Brusho class at the shop.  The colour from the Brusho made me think of mud splashes so it seemed appropriate to use this dog stamp, and I framed it using the coordinating die off-cut.

I have added my favourite sentiment from one of my favourite Paperartsy stamp sets (ZA08).  The sentiment is embossed with Versamark Stamp Pad and  Wow Opaque Bright White Embossing Powder.

The dog is coloured with Kuretake Zig Clean Color Cool Gray 1 No. 099 and Kuretake Zig Clean Color Cobalt Blue No.31 pens.  A Sakura Glaze pen has been used on his tag.  I felt the image suited googly eyes to add to his craziness, along with glossy accents for his nose.

I decided it wasn't quite finished without some muddy paw prints.  I stamped these with Walnut Stain Distress Oxide so they show up on the black cardstock too.

I think he is so cute, that despite the muddy mess you would forgive him in an instant...or is that just me!

As mentioned in my Tuesday post, we have received some new arrivals at the shop this week including stamps and dies designs by Phill Martin.

Keep on Crafting.

Reuse, Recycle #2 - Cardboard Packaging

Hello Crafters

Today I'm sharing number two in my Reuse and Recycle series.  I have had this piece of packaging kicking around in my stash for some time knowing that one day it would come in handy and I was inspired to use by Francoise Read from Woodward Stamps.

Shopping List:
Card blank
Scrap packaging
White Gesso
Structure Paste
Chunky White Embossing Enamel
Perfect Medium Stamp Pad
Broken China, Faded Jeans and Iced Spruce Distress Oxides
Woodware Stamps
Kraft Card
Versamark Stamp Pad
Wow Opaque Bright White Embosing Powder
Paper Shapers Deer Punch
String
Seam binding ribbon
Heat Tool
Palette Knife
Spray bottle of water
3D foam tape
Glue Gun

Here is a step by step;

Tear some of the front layer off the card to reveal the corrugated ribbing underneath.  Paint with a thin to medium layer of white Gesso paint.  Once dry colour with Broken China and Faded Jeans Distress Oxides using Cut N Dry, dry with a heat tool.
Stamp on to it with some of the smaller stamps from Woodware Sparkly Trees set using Iced Spruce Distress Oxide and dry with a heat tool.

Add Structure Paste using a palette knife and leave to dry.  Touch the edges of the card with Perfect Medium Stamp Pad and add Chunky White Embossing Enamel, heat from underneath to melt the enamel.

Stamp the Sparkly Trees on to Kraft card using Iced Spruce Distress Oxide, add Chunky White Embossing Enamel and then heat set from underneath.  This not only drys the Distress Oxide but also melts the enamel.  Roughly cut them out.

Stamp the Happy Christmas sentiment onto Kraft card using Versamark ink and Wow White Embossing Powder, and tear around them.

Punch out a deer from kraft card using the Paper Shapers Deer Punch, gently touch Perfect Medium Stamp Pad to it and add Chunky White Embossing Enamel, and again heat from underneath.

Wrap string around the card.  Dye a piece of seam binding in a plastic tub using broken china, Faded Jeans and Iced Spruce Distress Oxides spritzed with water.  Once completely coloured dry gently with a heat tool and tie into a bow.  Touch your card blank to the leftover distress oxide to mop up, reactive it with water if necessary.

Attach the packaging to the card base using 3D foam tape and add all the elements to the front of the cardboard packaging using a hot glue gun.  Safety tip, adding hot glue to the back of the elements may reactive the enamel which will be hot so take care of your fingers!

Keep on Crafting.

Seth Apter Workshop Leftovers

Good Morning Crafters

You may remember a couple of months ago I attending a "Crafting the Seth Apter Way" workshop with Chris Stevens. We created three backgrounds with Paperartsy Paints and did a bit of die cutting and, even after making the canvas and a few cards, I still had a lot of leftovers.  I dare not call it waste as Chris would cut my tongue out!

So yesterday afternoon I had a little play with a leftover piece and my Distress Oxides.  A lot of the paint colours I had used toned in well the Distress Oxides colours (I bought the first 12 whilst they were on offer in the shop).  What I discovered is using the Distress Oxides on top of Paperartsy paints gives the Oxide finish a shine rather than the chalky finish when used direct to cardstock.  I have used one of the white Gelly Roll pens to colour in the Birthday.

I think this will be glued into my random pieces book as a sort of reference project.

If you missed out on the Distress Oxide workshops then pop along to the shop on 23 September as Chris will be demoing these fabulous inks from Tim Holtz.

Blog Editor's Pick
This week I'm sharing another staple in my crafty arsenal, and it's another white product but it's anything but boring!  The White Gelly Roll is great for adding highlights to coloured images, writing on black cardstock, detailing around stencilling or stamping on your cards and mixed media projects.  Francoise Read, designer for Woodware Stamps, uses the white gelly roll pen on almost all her projects.  At just £1.99 each it's worth grabbing two.

Turning Christmas to Autumn

Good Morning Crafters

Before I share today's card I wanted to remind you about the Free Craft Day at Keep on Crafting sponsored by Stix 2, happening tomorrow, 5 August. Join Rushanne Young, one of our regular tutors and a demonstrator, as she demos seasonal craft projects.  You can take part and have a go at any project that she is showing.  We really hope to see you ther for some crafty fun.

Today's card is an easel card using the Distress Oxides, Distress Inks and the Woodware Sparkly Trees stamp set.  This is one of the newly released Chistmas sets but, as you can see, depending on the colours you use it could be any season.  Today it's my favourite season, Autumn.

I have used the Press to Impress stamping tool and the following Distress Oxides to create layers on to a piece of embossed cardstock from my stash which I have inked with Distress Inks.

Distress Oxides used;
Peeled Paint
Spiced Marmalade
Fossilized Amber
Cracked Pistachio
Fired Brick
Wilted Violet
Walnut Stain

Distress Inks used;
Mustard Seed
Dried Marigold

The stopper is made from an off cut of one of my distess oxide backgrounds.  I added the sentiment using a ZIG Millenium 05 pen
